No Child Left Behind

No Child Left Behind LogoThe No Child Left Behind Program is a grassroots issue advocacy program designed to raise awareness in America’s communities of the need for education reform. Unit Clubs in the state of California have taken great strides to make this a prime motivating effort.

On January 8, 2002, President Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The Act is the most sweeping reform of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) since ESEA was enacted in 1965. It redefines the federal role in K-12 education and will help close the achievement gap between disadvantaged and minority students and their peers. It is based on four basic principles: stronger accountability for results, increased flexibility and local control, expanded options for parents, and an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work.

The National Federation of Republican Women has devoted a great deal of space to this program. Throughout our nation, and especially here in the State of California our divisions and units continue to promote this education initiative using many innovative and creative activities.

CFRW members participating in the "No Child Left Behind" Project provide a great service to our children, while enhancing the message of the Republican Party. They demonstrate that Republican women, and the Republican Party in general, care about the education community. The Republican Party has been and will continue to be at the forefront of developing successful ideas to reform and support our education system.
